dressbydesign.jpgAfter I posted about the British dress company StyleShake, several readers offered additional suggestions for other made-to-order dress sites. Here are the top three:

1. DressByDesign. This American company takes a bit longer than StyleShake, but the pieces are shipped from within the States. They offer a ton of style and fabric options. You can choose a standard size or have the dress made to fit your measurements perfectly. One thing I really like about DressByDesign is that they let you choose exactly how long you want your skirts to be. I do wish that they offered more pictures of actual pieces rather than relying primarily on illustrations.

2. Studio28Couture. This site doesn’t offer as many options, but it does have some attractive styles. They only offer standardized sizings. However, they have a lot of fabric styles to choose from and let designers select both a primary fabric and an accent fabric - a feature that some other design sites are lacking.

3. CocoMyles. This dress design site offers a more limited selection of pieces in standard sizes only. The dresses on this site seem like they’d work very well for bridesmaids (particularly because you can create many dresses with different features all in the same color). You can also add a matching sash, bow, or shawl to many of the dress combinations.

Is there one near me in Buffalo, NY?

Kathy, I don’t know of any in the area. However, the places listed ship all over.

If you want to go local, you may have some success by looking for a seamstress (try to find someone who specializes in “dressmaking.”

Forget the fashion shows, give me style advice I can actually use. I don’t care about the latest alien-looking fashion coming out of Milan. What I do care about is dressing chic and filling my closet with gorgeous clothes without breaking the bank. You won’t find debate about what’s “in” on this blog, but you will find helpful girlfriend-to-girlfriend advice about how to shop and what to wear in any situation. You’ll find take-to-the mall printables and clothing line reviews. You’ll also get helpful style tips, sales alerts, and coupon codes for a variety of stores.
